In final released form, Blood Wake has turned out to be an entertaining and very challenging mission-based shooter. Make note that the game benefits with an emphasis on "challenging", as for hardcore action gamers some of these missions are very pleasingly tough to complete. However, those who aren't committed to seeing a tough game through will be frustrated with Blood Wake, and also be missing out on most of the better elements of the game (arriving later as they do). 

In general, Blood Wake suffers from a personality deficit. Programmers did great with the waves and wave physics; artists came up with silly but imaginative boats and storyline; and yet it all ultimately comes across as a technology demo fleshed out with good gameplay and uneven voice acting.

I like Blood Wake for the wave physics, the boats and gun designs, and even some characters (which includes a prominent female leader, though you'd never know it from the marketing).

But again there is always that "tech demo feel" to the game, which might have been rectified by more detailing of landscapes; a scoring system that rewarded degrees of timing and precision (rather than just win/lose a mission); even some better production vales (a British-sounding woman, an American braggard, and a Scottish/Indian-mix are some of the voices of these proto-Chinese characters!).

You'll like or dislike Blood Wake, but you won't love it...and yet it never missteps enough to be hated. Unless you hate challenge, that is.
