Book Description
I went through it and it really was easy to figure out and do all the chords and riffs and stuff. The book is made for those with some guitar experience but you don't have to be a master mind at it or anything like that.

Amazon.com
Although Alice in Chains singer Layne Staley dropped off the radar following 1995's Alice in Chains, it's amazing how good he sounds on 1998's "Get Born Again," the one new track on this 15-song best-of outing. Sounding like a Dirt-era offering, the band's trademark dirgeful sound and melodic, layered, and haunting vocals shine on this strong Staley-Cantrell composition. And there's other interesting material that makes Nothing Safe a safe bet for fans. A demo of "We Die Young" is faster and more metal than the version on 1990's Facelift, while a live "Rooster," lilting "Got Me Wrong" (from Unplugged) and "What Hell Have I" from the Last Action Hero soundtrack are all eminently listenable. --Katherine Turman

Biography

Formed Seattle, 1987.

Guitars and “God Smack” paved the path to stardom for Alice In Chains: Nirvana-crazed journos fell over themselves to cover more Seattlites who not only played neck-snapping metal but also permanently verged on junk-fuelled collapse. Alice In Chains had, however, participated in that quaint practice of paying their dues. Like Pantera, they were conceived as glam-rockers, before transforming into more manly metallers, shedding their original monicker (Diamond Lie) and singer Nick Pollock (whose own next project, My Sister’s Machine, had a distinctly Alice-ish flavour).

Settling on a line-up of Jerry Cantrell (guitar), Layne Staley (vocals), Mike Starr (bass) and Sean Kinney (drums), the band issued their 1990 debut, FACELIFT, to critical cheers and public antipathy. Relentless touring contributed to its eventual success, but more important was the adoption of the single “Man In The Box” as a Beavis and Butthead MTV anthem and Alice’s appearance in Cameron Crowe’s movie Singles. From the latter came “Would? , an international hit in the summer of 1992, by which time the band had completed arena tours with Slayer and Van Halen and, contrarily, released a low-key acoustic EP, SAP (1991).

‘Low-key’ and ‘acoustic’ were terms rarely applied to their next album, DIRT (1992), which wrapped choirboy harmonies around sledgehammer guitars, peddling an ambiguous line about the merits of heroin.
Appropriately, Alice then began to fall apart. Founder member Starr quit, to be replaced by mild-mannered Mike Inez (ex-Ozzy Osbourne, whom Alice had supported); then, after an acclaimed European tour, they cancelled a high-profile support slot with Metallica, and recorded the icily beautiful JAR OF FLIES (1994), a mini-album that made Slayer sound chirpy. Kerrang magazine subsequently gave away ‘Cheer up Layne, it might never happen’ stickers.

Opting not to tour in support of JAR OF FLIES, the group prompted speculation about Staley, who was variously rumoured to be: a) clean; b) reacquainted with the business end of needles; or c) dead. He instead emerged as frontman of Mad Season, in the company of Pearl Jam’s Mike McReady. This ongoing project yielded the fine ABOVE album (1995), a handful of gigs and a spot-on John Lennon tribute album WORKING CLASS HERO. Mike Inez, meanwhile, toured with Slash’s Snakepit.
These extracurricular activities meant no one was very surprised when Alice’s next album, ALICE IN CHAINS (1995), was announced -- by the press -- as their last. But, the lead-off single “Grind” warned, ‘You’d be well advised not to plan my funeral before the body dies.’ Defiant, unlovely, yet compelling as ever, the album debuted at #1 in the US. Perhaps it heralds a period in which they and fellow mopers like Smashing Pumpkins and Soundgarden pack up their troubles in a flightcase and -- in true Beavis and Butthead style -- just, huh huh huh, rock. But on the evidence of their UNPLUGGED album, which followed shortly after their appearance on MTV in 1996, even if we can’t start planning funerals it might be time to test how hard the dirt is up in the graveyard.
